New York Design Week Review
We were thrilled to have Matthew Hilton join us in New York for New York Design Week. He visited The Future Perfect at NoHo Design District for an intimate chat about his career last Saturday. He also gave a stellar presentation at the De La Espada store last night about his eponymous brand and how his relationships with De La Espada and Ercol help realise his creative vision. A cocktail reception in celebration of New York Design Week followed the talk and was a great opportunity to catch up with our friends, clients and fans.
Visitors to the De La Espada store also enjoyed Charlene Mullen's new collection of textiles, Pablo, featuring thick tapestry wool, vibrant colours and expressive contour lines.

Windsor Chairs
Matthew Hilton has just launched four Windsor Chairs in solid ash and walnut, furthering the story, the evolution, of the English Windsor Chair. Remaining true to traditional Windsor chair making techniques, Hilton has updated the design by reducing the components, and simplifying the forms. The result is a set of chairs with a commanding presence, that emanate calm and familiarity. Ercol, the UK's largest manufacturer of solid wood furniture, brings their history and experience in building Windsor Chairs to this project. The Windsor Chairs are available now from De La Espada retailers worldwide.

London Design Festival
During London Design Festival in September, The Tramshed 2011 will take place at the Lawrence Hall of the Royal Horticultural Society near Victoria and will build upon the success and excitement of the Tramshed 2010 in Shoreditch. The beautifully preserved 1930's Lawrence Hall with over 2000 square metres of exhibition space, nearly three times the space of the 2010 exhibition, is the backdrop for a celebration of how authenticity and good design contribute to overall quality of life.
As promotor of the event De La Espada will attend with our Autoban, Matthew Hilton, Leif.designpark, Studioilse, and Charlene Mullen designer-led brands, as well as new brands Søren Rose Studio and Benjamin Hubert. We will be joined by companies and organisations not only from the world of home furnishings, who share an optimistic vision of the humanist qualities of good design. The Tramshed will collaborate with leading design schools and host a series of talks covering the theme of the exhibition, to encourage professionals and public alike to evaluate their relationship with good design.

If you missed the feature in FT How To Spend It about De La Espada's unique business model, read it online here
. Jenny Dalton writes, ‘De La Espada could provide a business model capable of seriously challenging Italy's supremacy in furniture design manufacturing - a model that tends to favour the company over the designer-to-hire...Thanks to De Oliveira's diverse choice of designers, the project could be one of the design world's biggest triumphs to date.’
